Tino Livramento’s journey to becoming an England international and Carabao Cup winner is anything but ordinary. Despite winning Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year in 2021—an accolade previously held by Mason Mount, Reece James, and Conor Gallagher—Tino was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Rather than fall into Chelsea’s loan system, he had the courage and clarity to demand a permanent move to Southampton, where he immediately impressed with 32 appearances in his first full season. That breakthrough campaign was cut short on 24 April 2022 when he suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, sidelining him for almost a year.
Tino made his long-awaited comeback on 21 May 2023, remarkably against Brighton—the very team he was injured playing against—354 days later.
Following Southampton’s relegation, big clubs began circling. His childhood friend Jamal Musiala even tried to push Bayern Munich to sign him, but it was Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United who put their faith in Tino, investing heavily in his potential.
In the 2023/24 season, he made 35 appearances and 1,893 minutes despite competing with Kieran Trippier. Unfortunately, another setback arrived when he sustained a serious ankle injury, ruling him out for three months over the summer.
It is during setbacks that the mindset of elite athletes truly shows. Determined not to waste his off-season, Tino created a pre-preseason rehabilitation plan with Newcastle’s medical team.
He began his recovery in Portugal before heading to Mykonos Performance, where he completed two 10-day intensive training camps in May and June 2023. Training alongside his close friend Jamal Musiala, Tino combined rehabilitation, conditioning, and recovery with the mental benefits of a fresh environment.
At Mykonos Performance, our physios and rehabilitation coaches worked in close collaboration with Newcastle’s medical staff. The program included:
Targeted rehabilitation exercises
Conditioning sessions on the Wattbike
Recovery therapies such as Normatec compression boots
Support from the Charisma Wellness Hotel environment, offering balance between recovery and relaxation
This holistic approach helped Tino stay focused, motivated, and mentally refreshed—critical factors in long-term injury recovery.
Thanks to his discipline and summer dedication, Tino entered Newcastle’s 2024/25 preseason fully fit. Many players in his position may have chosen to rest, but his commitment to comeback work paid dividends.
So far this season, he has:
Played 35 matches across all competitions (with a quarter of the season still remaining)
Recorded a career-high 2,559 minutes of competitive football
Missed just 6 days all season, and only due to illness
This consistent availability was rewarded with his first England call-up, under both interim manager Lee Carsley and current boss Thomas Tuchel. Competing for a spot among world-class right backs like Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, and Kieran Trippier, Tino has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting fullbacks in European football.
Tino capped off his remarkable comeback by outshining Mohamed Salah in the Carabao Cup Final, helping Newcastle win their first major trophy in 70 years. At just 22 years old, his resilience and performances have already caught the eye of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Grounded, hardworking, and supported by close friends like Musiala and CJ Egan Riley, Tino’s journey highlights the importance of environment, recovery systems, and personalized support in modern football. As legends like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have shown, surrounding yourself with the right people and tools can change the trajectory of an athlete’s career.
For Tino, the future looks limitless—whether continuing to thrive at Newcastle or perhaps one day reuniting with Musiala at one of Europe’s giants.
